Bishop Cherry is delighted to announce that Mary Moore has been appointed as house for duty priest in the North Monmouthshire Ministry Area, with particular care for the Grosmont Pastoral District. She will commence her role after the licensing service which will take place on October 15th at 7.30pm in St Nicholas Church in Grosmont.
Mary writes, ‘I was born in Hounslow, West London into a Christian family and gave my life to the Lord when I was fifteen. I worked for many years in education and when I learned British Sign Language to a good level, I used it to support Deaf Students in Colleges and University. Sign language has become a huge part of how I express myself especially in worship and ministry. God began calling me to do more when we were living in Leicestershire, and I began some theology study with the support of the church in Kibworth where I worshipped.
We came to Wales where we had both family and friends over a decade ago, to fulfil a desire to live as sustainably as possible, learning many new things; caring for animals, growing food, establishing an orchard and keeping bees.
Life has evolved in often unexpected ways, especially for me as God drew me into ministry here, opening opportunities to use my Sign Language skills in ways I had not anticipated. I have been able to be a part of the Deaf community and Deaf ministry within Southeast Wales supporting the different Deaf churches and groups and instigating a small team to continue this support and outreach.
Being part of a community is important and both John and I love being here. To be able to minister with the community where we live is a real gift from God.
John and I have a wide, blended and diverse family who are spread across the world, traveling to see them is always an adventure 😊 and the internet makes it so much easier to keep up to date. We enjoy our animals and currently have a Mini Dachshund and a young Great Dane as well as a small cat. Life in our household can be hectic but is full of laughter.
I love to be creative to both relax and learn new skills. I enjoy patchwork, embroidery and making clothes as well as basketry and more recently starting to learn to carve. Life is full of new opportunities and revelations which God places in front of us. I pray for the courage to explore them all to the full.’
