We are delighted to announce that The Revd. Canon David Williams has been appointed by Bishop Cherry as House for Duty Team Vicar in the North Monmouthshire Ministry Area. David will have particular responsibility for the Llanddewi Rhydderch Pastoral District and will begin his new role at the start of 2025.
David was born in Andover, Hampshire, in 1958. Thanks to his Christian parents (his father was a Welsh Methodist from Bridgend) he attended church every week from an early age, where his faith was nurtured. At the age of 10, his mother tells of a visit to St David’s Cathedral, where he went into the pulpit and spoke! He has felt a deep sense of God’s calling on his life since childhood. Aged 16, when he was a church chorister, David invited Jesus into his life and led the Christian Union at his secondary school.
David read theology at London University, graduating with a Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1981. From there went on to study for the priesthood at Ripon college, Cuddesdon, Oxford. Following ordination in 1984, he has served in both urban and rural parishes in the Diocese of Winchester and the Diocese of Oxford, and he is currently Rector of the Risborough Team Ministry, on the edge of the Chiltern Hills, in Buckinghamshire.
David has been particularly involved in the training nurture of curates and lay ministers, encouraging the discernment of vocations and promoting discipleship, mission, overseas links, and pilgrimage.
As to hobbies, David has a great love of music, rugby and hill walking. He is married to Jo, has three children – Hannah, Abby and Huw, five grandchildren and a young labrador named Lily (Lilwen). We look forward, greatly, to David and Jo joining us, sometime in the New Year.
