Penrhos is a quiet but friendly village that have always enjoyed socialising. But with no pub, village hall or community space, it was essential the church be a place that allowed for fellowship as well as worship. Last year, the wheels were put in motion for the installation of a new kitchen and toilet at St Cadoc’s Church. Once a faculty had been approved, a grant was applied for from the Community Green Energy Advisory Group which awarded a very helpful sum. Nick Oxford Builders agreed to do all the building work, plumbing and electrics and all worked very hard whilst maintaining respect for the church throughout the job. They were sure to keep things clean and tidy so services were never disrupted but progress could clearly be seen.
Russ From Howdens in Pontypool were tasked with designing the kitchen. This was done digitally so it was clear to see how it would look when in place. Nothing was too much trouble and would be highly recommended to anyone planning a kitchen!
Of course nothing goes smoothly when dealing with incredibly thick stone walls. A problem arose when trying to drill through the wall to connect the waste pipes to the toilet. However, a specialist company from Bristol soon had this sorted. A funeral due at St Cadocs on Saturday 18th May along with a deep clean now gave the builders a finish date – no pressure! On Friday the 17th May, the lock was placed on the loo door and the project finished. The people of St Cadoc’s are now very grateful to have wonderful new facilities. Such a transformation and a great step forward for church accessibility and fellowship.
