On Saturday 22nd March, St Michael’s Llanvihangel Crucorney held a Covid Commemoration Service to mark the anniversary of lockdown. This was an uplifting service which involved the whole community.
Special guests included Dame Claire Clancy, Dep Lord Lieutenant as well as Sean Cornork and Ryan Higgins representing the Welsh Ambulance Service.
The service included intercessions, lighting of candles for those that had died as well as thanksgiving for the work of the emergency services and others who worked during lockdown.
It was accompanied by soloist Ifon Thomas, joined by Organist Judith Pendrous singing “Empty Chairs and Empty Tables”, from Les Miserables and “You’ll Never Walk Alone’ from Carousel. Hymns included ‘The Lord is My Shepherd’ and ‘Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer’. Both English and Welsh National Anthems were sung.
There was also a presentation of the Covid Tapestry which will be a permanent memorial to those lost through Covid. This was the brainchild of Revd. David’s wife, Tess Roberts, who spent almost twelve months completing it.
