The weather certainly reflected the sombre mood of Good Friday this year. However, the wind and drizzle did not deter a group from across the Ministry Area for their Holy Mountain Walk up the Skirrid following the Stations of the Cross.
The group of hearty walkers were led by Revd. Heidi – we were even joined by travellers as far as Oxford! Several four legged friends including Pip and Lexi were also not put off by the rain.
It was a reflective walk up to the summit as we paused for each Station of the Cross. Individuals took it in turns to carry the wooden Cross, crafted from an old Christmas tree of the Llantilio Group. We followed and reflected with Jesus through his arrest, trial, crucifixion and resurrection. As we climbed to the top, we thanked Christ for his sacrifice on Good Friday:
“We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you,
Because by your holy Cross, you have redeemed the world”
The rain made the walk slippery in parts but as we made it to the top, it began to dry and we concluded our service – just in time for the rush down to make it for our ‘Last Hour’ services at 2pm! Many thanks Heidi for this contemplative morning as we solemnly wait for Jesus’ death.
