In line with Cadw’s Open Doors scheme, three of our churches in the Llantilio Pertholey Pastoral Group held their annual Open Days – St Teilo’s, Llantilio Pertholey, St David’s, Llanddewi Skirrid and Bettws Chapel.
There were a steady stream of visitors to all churches, with dedicated volunteers on hand to welcome. It was a wonderful opportunity for people to enjoy our beautiful buildings, particularly those that are usually kept locked. Leaflets were available on the history of the churches, as well as varying levels of activities and refreshments. People were also invited to leave their prayers with God as they explored these special places.
There was lots happening at St Teilo’s, with teas, cakes and a BBQ which raised a total of £564.00 for the church. Emily Bailey was also on hand with children’s activities as well as the unveiling of Bishop Cherry’s winner of the art competition. Father Julian was kept busy with teddy bear parachuting from the Tower and all the cuddly toys received a certificate for being so brave!
People had the opportunity to look around the church, at the vestments, as well as church records for their family histories. Many thanks to all those who worked so hard preparing for and supporting the day. It is so important we make our churches open spaces for everyone so that God’s Kingdom continues to grow.
