We began the day at Michaelgarth House just up the hill from the Convent with morning prayer. We then spent the day listening to several sessions from Trystan. During his talks, Trystan spoke of his challenging pilgrimage and how it drew on several Christian experiences of joy, suffering, endurance and dependence.
On Saturday 7th March, we held a Ministry Area Quiet Day at Ty Mawr Convent near Monmouth. We were also joined by several from the St Illtyd’s Ministry Area. We were extremely lucky to be led by theologian Trystan Hughes who is now acting as Director of Ministry Development for the Church in Wales.
Throughout the day, Trystan guided us on his book ‘To Hell’s Mouth and Back’, which is this year’s chosen Lent book that we have been reflecting on during our Tuesday afternoon sessions.
We also had several opportunities for personal quiet and reflection. We were lucky to be able to explore the extensive grounds offered at Ty Mawr which were filled with daffodils! There were also private chapels which allowed for secluded prayer. These beautiful surroundings really helped us to privately meditate on Trystan’s themes as well as our own contemplations.
At Midday, we joined the sisters in the main chapel for Eucharist. It was very special to be able to join them in their daily worship – of which there are seven every day!
It was a truly beautiful day of fellowship as well as peace and reconnection with God.
