As Christians, we believe children are a special gift from God. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Mark 19:14). Children are so important in our ministry as they represent the next generation who are able to continue the Good News of the Bible.
We want to make our churches safe and open spaces where children and young people are able to freely explore their faith. Our School Engagement Pioneer, Emily Bailey, has been appointed to make sure families feel listened to and welcomed into our communities.
We have three Primary Schools within our MA: Llantilio Pertholey, Llanvihangel Crucorney and Cross Ash. Emily has great relationships with them, visits often and is building a good trust between the schools and the Church’s mission.
Emily runs a weekly Parent and Toddler’s group called Toddle-a-way every Thursday morning 9:45am-11:30am at St Teilo’s Church, Llantilio Pertholey. We are also setting up a new Family Worshipping community every Sunday afternoon at Llantilio Pertholey Primary School – more details to follow!
We are eager to better involve children and families into our churches and be there to offer help and support in whatever form that takes. We have recently held some wonderful children’s activities, from Forest faith sessions, to youth clubs, to interactive prayer stations.
We can’t afford to exclude children and families in our ministry. Children are the future and are able to energise and inspire us to focus on the central joyous message of Christ.
