Our Team

I began my ministry as a Minor Canon at our Cathedral in Newport in 1988 where I was soon joined by The Reverend Heidi Prince. We lived next door to each other and it is a privilege and joy, once again, to be Heidi’s colleague and neighbour in the North Monmouthshire Ministry area. After the Cathedral, I served successively as Curate of Bassaleg, Vicar of Overmonnow, Vicar of King’s Sutton in Northamptonshire, Vicar of Usk and now, Rector of the North Monmouthshire Ministry Area. I’m here until I retire – seven years from now – so you’re stuck with me, well, for the time being at least! I am married to Catherine, whom I met at Lampeter University, and we have two wonderful children, Timothy and Abigail, of whom I am incredibly proud!

Having worshipped in Llantilio Pertholey Church as a youngster, and ministered in the Grosmont group as a Deacon (in the old days before women were allowed to be priests and vicars), I first had the privilege and joy of being the Vicar of Llantilio Crossenny group in 1997. I have also served as a hospital chaplain which I greatly valued. My roots here are like those of an old oak tree – they go down deep!

Born in Andover, Hampshire, I attended Church each week from a young age, which is where my faith was nurtured, thanks to my parents who were both Christian. From my early days as a chorister, I invited Jesus into my life and led the Christian Union at secondary school. I read theology at London University and went on to study for the priesthood at Ripon college, Oxford. After being ordained in 1984, I have served in town and country Churches in Winchester Diocese and Oxford Diocese and have had particular involvement in the training of Curates and Lay Ministers, discipleship and mission, the discernment of vocations, overseas links, and pilgrimage. As to hobbies, I have a great love of music, rugby and hill walking. I’m married to Jo, have three children Hannah, Abby and Huw and five grandchildren and a young labrador named Lily (Lilwen).  

Hi I’m Emily and I’m the School Engagement Pioneer for North Monmouthshire Ministry Area. I have the privilege of bringing the Good News of Jesus to families and young people across the area, in whatever form that takes. I visit our schools, host lots of children’s activities and am starting a new Baby and Toddler group. I want our churches to be open and safe spaces that are welcoming to all. I live in Abergavenny with my husband and two tiring boys!
